George Nashawaty Obituary

George Nashawaty, 80, passed away on March 14, 2024 peacefully at his home. George was predeceased by his infant son George Gerard.

George was the son of the late Aleck and Nellie Nashawaty of West Roxbury. Two siblings predeceased him: Bruce Nashawaty and Rosemarie Nashawaty.

George leaves his loving wife of 54 years, Marietta Antonellis Nashawaty. He was the loving father of daughter Adrienne Nashawaty, and her husband Karim Khiat and grandfather to their adored children, Kamilla (14), Taj (10), and Kader (5).  George was brother-in-law to Lucille Antonellis and husband William Paul , Joseph Antonellis and wife Dominique Dutil, sister-in-law Dona Nashawaty (husband Bruce Nashawaty deceased) and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He previously lived in Wayland where he built his home and raised his family and later built his retirement home in the Northshore.

He loved spending time vacationing with his family on trips from Boston to Florida, the Caribbean and Cancun. He enjoyed summers with family and friends on his boat the "Simply Outrageous", docked at Charlestown Shipyard Quarters Marina from where he navigated to the Boston Harbor Islands, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Gloucester.

George had many deep sea fishing experiences off the East Coast, Florida and the Florida Keys, that were full of excitement and unforgettable moments.

George was a Massport Fire and Boat Captain and the Marine Supervisor of the M/V Howard W. Fitzpatrick, a Fire and Rescue Boat at Logan International Airport until retirement. He was elected President of IAFF Local S-2 and was the Detail Coordinator.

One of his favorite experiences with his crew was the water spray and sirens celebration for the turning of the USS Constitution in the Boston Harbor. George received many letters commending his duties for fire and safety emergencies on water and land as well as coordinating events in the Boston Harbor and surrounding harbors.

Even though George retired, he always considered his Massport position as a part of his life and kept in contact with the Fire Station and Marine Unit. George was so thankful and grateful to all for their friendship and respect. During retirement he became a member of PPYC Winthrop where he docked his boat.  With his USCG license, he was employed by the Cambridge Riverboat Association and also chartered "Simply Outrageous" for the New England Charter Boat Assoc.
