M. Eleanor (Lewis) Scheiffern

of Brighton, August 27, 2018.  Beloved wife of the late William H. Scheiffern.  Devoted mother of John W. Scheiffern & his wife Maureen of Woburn and Michelle Costello & her husband David of Westminster, CO.  Dear sister of the late Eileen Zirwas.  Loving grandmother of Sean Scheiffern and Benjamin & Olivia Costello.  Funeral from the Lehman, Reen, & McNamara Funeral Home, Saturday, September 1st at 9:00am.  Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 43 Holton St., Allston, at 10:00am.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Interment Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury.  Visitation Friday, August 31st from 4 to 8pm.  In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Eleanor may be made to the Veronica B. Smith Senior Center, 20 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, MA 02135.

After she retired, Eleanor volunteered 2 days a week at the Veronica B. Smith senior center.  She handled the weekly lunch reporting, greeted visitor and helped with special events.  For someone who was legally blind, she recognized and welcomed regulars and newcomers alike.

She was called the Sergeant because she kept everyone in line at the big events and was a long time member of the Board of Directors.
