Marta D. (Gonzalez) Perez

Marta Perez long-time resident of the Tampa Bay area, died Thursday the 11th of July at home with her family in Brighton, MA. She is followed by her five children, Francisco Barrios, Julio Barrios, Rosa Abrego, Vilma Barrios De Teo, and Gustavo Barrios who passed away October 2018. She was loved by her husband Manuel Perez as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Marta was born in Guatemala in 1936, she later came to the United States where she worked hard to gain her citizenship and proudly resided in Boston, MA. She worked until her retirement to ensure that her children were taken care of. Marta loved music especially from her native Guatemala called "Marimba". She loved to dance to all kinds of music but her specialty was cumbia. Her presence would light up any room. Marta loved to cook, travel and adored the beach. She loved God and her family always came first. She played so many roles like counselor, nurse, teacher, lawyer, mother and wife. Marta was determined and did whatever she put her mind to. 

Marta loved all her children equally. She made sure that her life in the United States would help them and it did. Her children were the apple of her eye and she would have given her life over and over. As she looked after them on earth, she will continue to look after them from heaven with her youngest child Gustavo Barrios.

Marta loved her husband Manuel Perez with all her heart, married for almost 40 years. He took on a mother of five and supported her through it all. Both Marta and Manuel were inseparable and would venture out to do so many exciting things. They were an example of unconditional love, best friends and mirrored each other's greatness. 
Marta will be missed dearly and her legacy lives on. May she Rest In Peace.

Visiting hours from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, Friday July 19th from 6-9pm with a memorial service at 6pm. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be private.
