Philip Hersey Govatsos was born on March 27th, 1948 and died Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 at the age of 70. Philip grew up in Canton, Mass where he was raised by his loving parents Edward and Elizabeth Govatsos. He is survived by his siblings Barbara, Charles and Andy, his nieces Michelle, Ariel and Juliana and his nephew Corey.
Philip graduated from Northeastern University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Philip lived most of his adult life in Brighton, Mass and worked for Boston Children’s Hospital managing the X-Ray and Records Department. At the age of 55 Philip was diagnosed with the rare blood disease, Polycythemia vera. He did everything in his power to keep the disease at bay. Rather than drive his vehicle, Philip generally rode his bike, summer through winter, to his favorite cafés and to and from the hospital for frequent treatments.
Philip loved history and math and he enjoyed telling jokes, sharing his favorite music and singing songs for his siblings and friends. Philip will be greatly missed.
A commemorative gathering for Philip will be held on Sunday, October 7th 6pm-9pm at “The Tavern 730” - 730 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA, 02139.
