Alfred Mira of Allston, MA, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at home on January 8, 2026.
A lifelong member of the Catholic church, Alfred was a devout member of several local parishes during his lifetime, including St. Anthony’s of Allston, St. Ignatius of Newton, St. Columbkille of Brighton, and Boston’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
Alfred began his mailing ministry, “Thousands for’s Free,” in the early 1970’s. Receiving dozens of requests every month for his “God Bless You” and “Jesus In Me Loves You” cards, as well as other cards and stickers, he operated the ministry out of his home, eventually distributing over 150 million cards. Alfred served his local community in various ways, including an effort he called “Books for Prisons,” where he worked with local Boston libraries, collecting donated books and distributing them to area prisons.
Alfred was also a lifelong artist, working in oil portraiture and architectural paintings. As a portrait artist, he connected with his community painting portraits of people of all ages and backgrounds. His later-life architectural works spanned many city buildings – fire stations, churches, and civic architecture – as well as private homes. Examples can be found at alfredmirafineart.com.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Dianne Mira, and two daughters Gabriella and Angelina Mira. He is also survived by his children from a previous marriage, daughter Allegra and son Christopher Mira, as well as daughter in law Ana Maria Mira, and grandson Sky Salvatore Mira.
