Anna Wong Lee

Anna Wong Lee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the age of 84, with family by her side. 

Anna (愛玲) was born in Guangdong, China. From a young age, she forged her own destiny. First moving to Hong Kong where she met her husband, then to San Francisco and finally to Boston in 1968. Along the way, she gave birth to and raised two sons while working full time.

As a seamstress, she made pairs of matching bell-bottom pants for her two sons, using trendy and distinctive 70’s colors and patterns. These pants were tight around the hips, slim through the knees with a modest flare at the bottom. She dressed her two sons like members of a Chinese Jackson Five.

When the garment industry shifted offshore, she joined the housekeeping staff at the Boston Marriott Copley Place where she worked for nearly 20 years before her retirement.

She loved to cook, making meals effortlessly with meats, vegetables and rice in infinite combinations and flavors. Every dinner was served with a different soup with purported health benefits. As a potioneer, she added this and that to create herbal remedies. Some nights, it was an immune booster and inflammation reducer. Other nights, it was a formula for heart health and mental clarity.

She loved to garden. She converted every spare patch of soil into real estate for her gardens, creating a diverse and harmonious neighborhood of different vegetables and flowers. She always shared her harvest of tomatoes and squash with neighbors and friends.

Anna enjoyed spending time with her family and will continue to watch over all of us from amongst the stars, alongside her husband Jimmy (李超毅) and pets Bonnie and Wiki.

Anna leaves behind her son Bobby (Kwok Yin) and daughter-in-law Maria, her son Clifton (Kwok Kin), daughter-in-law Kristen and granddaughters Jaedyn and Kyra, and extended family. 

Visiting hours will be held at the Lehman, Reen, McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave. Brighton, on Thursday, September 7th, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and on Friday, September 8th, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Anna Lee to support cancer research and patient care (http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/annalee).
