Anthony J. Rufo, Jr of Brighton passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2026. He was born in Winthrop on September 16, 1948, to the late Anthony J. and Vincenza (Abate) Rufo. Beloved husband of Claudia (DiNicola) Rufo, who would’ve been married 51 years this March. Devoted father of Michelle Rufo of Fitchburg, Matthew Rufo and his wife Tara of Framingham. Loving grandfather of Anthony John and Samantha. Cherished brother of Geraldine Gregoire and her husband Louie, uncle of Alicia Poirier and her husband Josh, and treasured cousin and friend to so many. He was an avid runner for most of his life, including many years running the Boston Marathon, and local road races on a regular basis. He loved to be active and spend time outside and was always reading and learning and sharing his knowledge with his family. Anthony was always very involved in his community, a member of the Newton YMCA Board of Directors for many years as well as Newton Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, and a long-time member of the Watertown Knights of Columbus.
Funeral services will be from the Lehman Reen and McNamara Funeral Home 63 Chestnut Hill Ave (nr Brighton Courthouse) BRIGHTON on Tuesday January 20th at 9:30 am. Followed by Funeral Mass in St. Columbkille Church 321 Market Street Brighton at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Westwood Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be on Monday January 19th from 4-7pm in the Lehman Reen and McNamara Funeral Home.
