Arlene Gamer Obituary
Age 86, of Newton, December 30, 2023. Daughter of Betty (Lomasney) Jacobs and Louis Jacobs. Arlene was the mother of Stephanie Opper of Brighton, the sister of Joan Jacobs (Larry Drake) of Portsmouth, NH and Marjorie Jacobs (Peter Martin) of Cambridge. Arlene was a legal secretary and worked at the firm of Widett Slater Goldman for more than 15 years.
Arlene had a quick wit and a sharp mind. She closely followed all the professional Boston sports teams, and enjoyed jazz music and movies. She excelled in word games, especially Scrabble. She rejected organized religion and joined the American Atheists in the 1980s.
Arlene was a good listener, pet owner and neighbor. She was generous with friends, family, and causes that she believed in. She also is survived by friends and classmates from the Newton High School Class of 1955. Friends wishing to commemorate her memory are invited to send donations to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA, PO Box 97166, Washington, DC, 20077-7543).
