Denis V. Minihane a life-long resident of Brighton passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet Ann (Finigan) Minihane. Devoted father of MaryBeth Mullins and her late husband William of Wells, ME, Nancy Minihane and her husband Joseph Allonby of Brighton, Denis Neil Minihane and his wife Eileen Kim of El Cerrito, CA, Lauren McGrath and her husband John, Michele Zabachta and her late husband Andrei all of Brighton. He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mary Minihane of Brighton as well as his brother Robert Minihane, his surviving wife Helen of Osterville. Denis was also the brother of Helen Clarke and her late husband Dick, and Maureen Minihane both of Concord, as well as Paul Minihane and his wife Susan of West Roxbury. Grandfather of Shauna Mullins, Christopher McGrath, Connor Mullins, Denis McGrath, Liam Mullins, Sarah McGrath and Olivia Zabachta. Great Grandfather of Julian and Jackson McGrath. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Denis was a Graduate of Boston College, Class of 1959 and an avid Eagles fan and supporter. As a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, he gained his strength and came home to create his passion. He built his business, Minihane’s Flower & Garden Shop in Brighton Center over many years and a few locations. His pride and joy was the building he built with the adjoining greenhouse. He hosted yearly open houses for the people of Brighton, as this was his community. He was a member of the Boston Minstrels for many years, singing in prisons and shelters to bring a smile to so many. He was also a Board Member of the Boston Flower Exchange for many years. As a contributing Member of The Elks, Kiwanis, VFW, he was always active within the Brighton businesses and community.
Funeral from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home 63 Chestnut Hill Ave (Nr Brighton Courthouse) BRIGHTON on Wednesday January 25th at 9am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ignatius Church 28 Commonwealth Ave Chestnut Hill at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours Tuesday January 24th from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. Interment St Mary Cemetery Newburyport.
