Donald "Spike" MacLean Obituary

Donald Joseph “Spike” MacLean, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 95.

Born on January 12, 1931, to the late Horace and Eleanor MacLean . Donald lived a life defined by dedication to his family, quiet strength, and a generous heart. Affectionately known as “Spike” to those who knew and loved him, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife of many years, Frances MacLean, in 2011.

Donald was a devoted father to Helen Siciliano, whom he lovingly raised as his own. He was also the stepfather of George Haggie III and Eleanor Jones, who both predeceased him.

He was a proud grandfather to Jeffrey Siciliano, Stephen Siciliano, Eric Siciliano and his wife Nicole, Kristen Haggie, and Matthew Haggie. He was also predeceased by his grandson, George Haggie IV, in 2016;

Donald also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren, Sabrina Siciliano, Natalie Siciliano, and Milania Siciliano, who brought him immense pride and joy.

His siblings the late Richard MacLean his wife Virginia “Jinny”,  the late Eleanor Lingley and her late husband, Ralph, Eileen MacLean, Jean "Peggy" Gallagher and her husband, Bernie, Barbara McBride and her late husband, Paul, the late John "Jackie" MacLean, Neil MacLean and his wife, Linda, Patsy Gray and her late husband, Jim, David MacLean, Karen Lovett and her husband, Tom.

He shared a lifelong bond with his extended family and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Spike was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1952 to 1954. He continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1960, when he received an honorable discharge. His dedication to his country was a source of great pride throughout his life.

Spike spent many years as a truck driver and was a proud member of Local Union 25. After retiring from the road, he began a second career tending bar, where he spent the next 25 years. With his warm smile, quick wit, and friendly personality, he served not only spirits but also countless conversations and friendships, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Spike will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his warm spirit, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 95 years. His kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

His family finds comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his beloved Frances and those who went before him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to live on through the family he loved so dearly.

Visiting Hours in the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home 63 Chestnut Hil Ave Brighton on Monday July 27th from 10am-12pm.  Followed by Funeral Service at 12pm.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
