Elizabeth “Betty” (Pia) McManus of Marshfield, MA, formerly of Allston and Lynnfield, passed away at home on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She was 83 years old.
Born in Boston on August 26, 1941, Betty was raised in Allston. She graduated from St. Anthony School in Allston in 1955 and graduated from Saint Columbkille High School in Brighton in 1959. For many years, Betty was an active member of the award-winning St. Anthony’s Blue Diamonds Color Guard from Allston. She dedicated her professional life to the New England Telephone Company/NYNEX where she worked until her retirement in 1991.
Following retirement, Betty embraced life with vigor, indulging her passions for travel, snowmobiling, beachgoing, and early morning workouts at the gym. Hosting family and friends was always on her calendar. She especially looked forward to gathering around her table with “the gang” for good times playing cards.
Betty’s vibrant spirit truly came alive during the holidays, when she enthusiastically adorned her home with festive decorations. Her 4th of July parade and her Christmas in July party were lively annual events that everyone looked forward to. ‘Come one, come all’ was her motto and reflected her joy in bringing people together which she continued to do until her last days.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and togetherness that will be cherished by all who knew her. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit will continue to inspire and unite those she cared for so deeply.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Richard McManus, her parents Mario and Anna (DiGesse) Pia of Allston, sisters Mary Therese (Pia) Murphy and Carol (Pia) Johnson, and her long-time love, Paul Emile Boucher of Westbrook, ME.
She is survived by her brother, John Pia (Nancy) of Beverly, MA; nieces and nephews Christine Malone, David Pia, Stephen Pia (Kelli), Pia McKinnon (Kevin) and Michelle Johnson (Angelo); grand-nieces and nephews Alexandra Pia, Jacquelyn Pia, Luca Favaron, John McKinnon, and Noah McKinnon.
