Giovanni “John” Soave

Giovanni “John” Soave, 85, of Newton, MA passed away on January 11, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1936, in Sant’Elia Fiumerapido, Italy, the son of the late Bennedetto Soave and Maria (Vetriano) Soave. He was born and raised in Valleluce, Italy where he lived until emigrating to America in July,1956. He and his wife, Angela, settled in Newton, MA, where they lived for 38 years.

A very skilled carpenter, Giovanni worked for the Carpenters Union Local 33 in Boston, MA for 25 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going to the flea market, and playing with the family dog, Ollie. He was a loving, devoted, and hardworking husband, father and grandfather “Nonno” who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Angela (DiCicco) Soave; his two sons: Benny Soave and wife Rita of Hopkinton, MA, John Soave of Newton, MA; four grandchildren: Giovanni Soave and wife Mary of Grafton, MA, Christina (Soave) Spoehr and husband Matthew of Cumberland, RI, Michael Soave of Newton, MA and Rachel Soave of Chelmsford, MA; one brother: Angelo Soave of Shelby Township, MI, and one sister: Maria Antonia (Soave) Spaccarotelli of Sterling Heights, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Maria Soave and his brother Antonio Soave.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Lehman, Reen, McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, on Tuesday, January 18th at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Visiting Hours Monday, January 17th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in the Funeral Home.
