Guy Williamson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Guy Williamson, 88, of Natick who left us peacefully on November 5, 2024. A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and devotee, Guy lived a rich and fulfilling life that embodied the spirit of connection, gratitude, and service.

Guy often reflected on his life as a tapestry, akin to the words of Carol King’s song "Tapestry": “My life is like a tapestry of rich and royal hue, an everlasting vision of the ever-changing view.” As the view of his life changed, Guy found deep appreciation for the lessons learned and the relationships cherished.

A proud graduate of Princeton University, Guy enjoyed a successful career in engineering, feeling grateful for the opportunity to support his family doing what he loved. He valued the simple joy of work and the stability it provided for those he treasured most.

Guy and his former wife, Ingela Williamson, raised their three children, Lars Williamson (Lisa Williamson), Ian Williamson (Jo Marie Holzhammer), and Lori Fares (Gustavo Fares). His children, their spouses, and his four grandsons (Alec, Matthew, Lucas, and Christian) continued to be a significant part of his life.

A true creative engineer, Guy was never one to shy away from a challenge—whether it involved cutting a Saab station wagon in half to create a one-of-a-kind trailer, or turning his yard into a sprawling collection of cars that might just provide an essential spare part. When things broke, duct tape and epoxy were his go-to solutions, and he wasn’t afraid to try unconventional approaches, like building a house with a flat roof (though he would happily argue the joys of battling leaks on a rainy day). He was also known for his attempts to get the family on board with the benefits of having a coal stove indoors—because nothing says "family bonding" like dragging in buckets of coal on winter nights. Through it all, he imparted a key life lesson: "Don’t get hung up on what’s fair and what’s not." If anyone could make a flat roof, a coal stove, and a duct-taped car sound like a brilliant idea, it was him.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Guy possessed a lifelong curiosity for philosophical exploration. Inspired by the teachings he encountered at Princeton and later by thinkers like Carlos Castaneda and Ram Dass, Guy sought deeper truths, eventually finding peace, purpose, and a home in 1990 in Adidam as a formal devotee of Avatar Adi Da. He inspirationally served as an officer and board member, regularly took meditation retreats to Fiji, and performed many mission functions with great energy, demonstrating his happy spirit and befriending many along the way.

Guy married his beloved, Hilda Kolva, in 1995 and they shared many happy years until she passed in August 2021. Guy dedicated his time to spiritual practice, service, and the joy of being with family and friends. Even in his later years, he remained active playing tennis and pickleball, cherishing each moment with a grateful heart and humor.

Throughout his life, Guy touched many with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support for others. He leaves behind not just a family and close friends from his spiritual community, but a legacy of love and a tapestry of beautiful memories woven with joy, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Guy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Guy. Your tapestry continues to inspire us as we navigate the changing views of our lives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Parlin Hospice House for the tender care they provided to Guy in his final days. Their kindness and dedication made all the difference. The family is also deeply thankful to Guy’s spiritual community—Will, Rob, Dave, Jo, Pamela, Dennis, Donna, David, and so many others—who surrounded him with love and support throughout the years, and especially in the last month. Their unwavering presence and service of love brought great comfort to Guy, and for that, we are beyond grateful.
