1949-2026
ROSLINDALE - 77, went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2026. Formerly of Brighton, MA; Durham, NH; Arlington, MA; and Lexington, MA. Daughter of the late Fletcher Ashley and the late Joan Shepard Ashley. Wife for 56 years of the late Stanley Lane Rideout. Son Gregory F. Rideout and and wife Mayumi of MA and son J. Scott Rideout of TX. Grandsons Parker, Paxton and Keegan Rideout. Sisters late Karen Hughes and husband Sim Leon of NC, Swan Ashley of CO, and Alison Ashley of NH. Also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hilda grew up on Moon Hill, Lexington in a TAC home and utopian community. Stan and Hilda met in high school at Park Street Church; traveled with Gordon College European Seminar; and attended Camp Brookwoods. Married at York, ME in 1969 with reception by the ocean at the Rock House designed by her father. Hilda graduated from Beaver Country Day School and Jackson College of Tufts University. Following a brief stint teaching math, she was a computer consultant at UNH COLSA Office of Biometrics and later at UNH Sponsored Research. Enjoyed being part of a young church at UNH studying God's word with friends, and at subsequent daughter church. She loved gardening, cross country skiing, watching fish spawn in the brook and visits of the great blue heron. A fan of John Denver and The Shaw Brothers (NH) she enjoyed concerts in Prescott Park. A cub scout den mother, she had fun watching soccer, baseball and volleyball games of her sons with her husband. Hilda and Stan enjoyed taking walks in the neighborhood. Hilda liked reading while on the screen porch or out in the sun. She appreciated her friends and helpers at 2Life and Hebrew Rehabilitation. The oldest age regular attender at Symphony Church where she enjoyed taking sermon notes, prayers and seeing new friends.
