Mulcahy, James A.
Of Arlington, and previously from Waltham and Belmont, on January 27th, at age 89, after a brief illness. Jim was born to Richard J. and Ezella C. on November 21, 1936, in Cambridge, MA. Predeceased by his long-time partner, John Jakutis; his sister Margaret (Margie) Sawtelle and her husband, Frank, of Needham, MA and Naples, FL; his brother Richard J., Jr. and his wife, Esther, of St. Paul, MN; his brother William (Bill) and his wife Ruth of Waltham; and his brother Paul of Hampstead, NC and formerly of Susquehanna, PA. Loving uncle to Ann Cray and her husband, Ken, of Needham, MA and Naples, FL; Peggy McHugh and her husband, Ed, of Naples, FL; Bill Boyle and his wife, Janice, of Redlands, CA; Rick Boyle and his wife, Pennie, of Intervale, NH and Naples, FL; and Christie Matistic and her husband, Ed, of Hampstead, NC. Adored by his grandnephews and grandnieces: Jamie Cray and his partner, Ruthie Chiasson; Tom Cray and his wife, Carol; Carrie Willis and her husband, Jason; Andy Cray and his wife, Annie; Steve McHugh Skloot and his husband Greg; Kaitlyn Boyle and her husband Will Stubblefield; Matt Boyle and his wife, Anneliese; Brian Boyle and his wife, Brittany; Keith McHugh and his wife, Amanda Wilmsen; and Jack Matistic. Great granduncle to Owen Cray, Branden Cray, Carsen Cray, Lily Cray, Damen Cray, Brynn Willis, Tyson Boyle, Bradyn Boyle, Ezella Boyle and Laurel Hughsen.
Graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1954 and resident of Belmont for many years. Proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1956-1962) where he served in Tripoli, Libya as a medical administrator. Retired U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Boston.
During his free time, Jim enjoyed kayaking, playing golf, cooking and walking. Jim also enjoyed spending time at his family cottage in Magnolia. He was a dedicated fan of Boston’s sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. Jim will be greatly missed by family, friends and his wonderful neighbors at Chestnut Manor in Arlington.
Interment will be at Belmont Cemetery later. Memorial donations may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital at 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215 or at bostonchildrens.org/donate.
