Boston, MA - James (Jimmy) Tirrell, 84, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2021 in his home.
Jimmy was born in Weymouth, MA to the late James and Marjorie (Golby) Tirrell. He was known to many as a devoted brother, uncle, great-uncle, friend and neighbor.
Jimmy grew up on on the South Shore. After completing high school, he entered the navy, eventually becoming a veteran of the navy with honorable discharge. After a reputable stylist position with Lord & Taylor, as well as an apprenticeship with Michel Kazan, Jimmy opened up his very own successful salon on Boylston Street called the James Tirrell Salon.
For over a decade, he was the devoted sacristan at Emmanuel Church on Newbury Street, lending his keen designer’s eye to improve and enhance the furnishings, windows, altars, sacristy and robing room. He could always be seen leading the Emmanuel Church banner in the annual Pride Parade throughout Boston!
Jimmy also had a love for the arts! He was a long-time MFA member, as well as a season ticket holder at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He could also be seen frequenting Kings of Leon and Adele concerts as well as annual dance recitals with close friends.
Jimmy lived life to the fullest, constantly reminding folks that “rules were meant to be broken.” He knew something about everything and made a positive impact wherever he was.
A special thank you to the entire staff at the Susan Bailis Assisted Living Home, his nurse, Jenny Kim (Seasons Hospice Palliative Care), his primary caregiver, Kimbette Fenol.
Jimmy….you will forever be known as the “Mayor of Cazenove” and you will be deeply missed.
