James Joseph Whalen, Sr.
April 15, 1949-November 23, 2024
James (Jimmy, Beard) Whalen, formerly of Brighton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, after enduring several years of declining health. Son of the late James F. Whalen and Cecilia (McHugh) Whalen.
Predeceased by his beloved sister Annmarie Whalen, and his eldest son James (Jimbo) Whalen, Jr. Jimmy leaves behind two sisters: Maureen, and her husband Steve Whalen, of Easton, MA, and Terry, and her husband Al Randall, of Waltham. Very proud father of Julie Whalen, Canton, MA; Michelle Whalen, Wilmington, MA; John Whalen and his wife Raeann, Burlington, MA; and Katelyn Whalen, North Andover, MA. Grandfather of Brady Gibbons, and Olivia and Colin Whalen. Uncle of Jimmy, Stevie and Alicia Whalen; Alex Randall; and Nick Wesner. Jim also leaves behind a large, loving tribe of cousins and their extended families. Grateful for the loyal friendship of Jacquelyn Wesner.
Jim made a career of fixing other people’s cars, though never his own, and made many friends over the years. Besides cars, his favorite pastime was rocking in a chair on the porch of the cottage at Weirs Beach, NH. His greatest joy was spending time at the Lake with his kids, making memories at the beach, on the boat, and at Funspot.
He loved to dance like no one was watching, usually to classic R&B.
Late member of the Brighton Post of Elks.
Jim’s family will host a Celebration of Life in January. Details will be posted soon.
