Obituary

Oriola, Jane M. (Finn), in Bellows Falls, VT, formerly of Brighton, MA, passed away on March 15, 2020.  Much loved wife and mother, Jane was married to the late Thomas R. (Tom) for 50 years.  She was the daughter of the late John F. and Mary A. Finn.  Jane is survived by her children, Nancy Oriola of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Vitt of Bellows Falls, VT, Thomas M. (Michelle Ricci) of Tewksbury, MA, Deborah Oriola (Charles Batzinger) of Niskayuna, NY, and Steven Oriola (Jennifer) of Brooklyn, NY.  She was the adored “Nunnie” of Annie O’Donnell (Aiden), Steven Vitt, Peter Batzinger, Abigail Near-Oriola, Kate Batzinger, Adam Oriola and Samantha Oriola.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Lilianna, Charlotte and Elijah O’Donnell and several nieces and nephew.  She was predeceased by her brothers and sister, John J. (Flo), Betty MacDonald (Jack), and William Finn, and nephews John and Bruce MacDonald, and nieces Diane and Kathy Finn.

Born February 6, 1935, Jane grew up in Allston, MA and attended St. Anthony’s School and Mt. St. Joseph Academy (Class of 1952).  Married in 1955, she moved to Brighton where she raised her children and lived until moving with her daughter Mary to VT in late 2017. Jane always kept an open door for family and friends, greeting everyone with a hug and a smile even if meeting you for the first time.  She loved to laugh and her smile always lit up the room.  She was a source of strength for many, a true matriarch of her family and a role model of a strong women.

Jane managed her family and household, and held several jobs in her community ranging from housemother and day program coordinator at the former Crittenton Hastings Home, to intake coordinator for APAC’s Head Start program, to office manager for the Boston Carpenter’s Union Local 40.  In retirement, she and Tom enjoyed summers in New Hampshire, winter months in Florida, and most especially, time with their grandchildren.

Jane faced the challenges of her declining health in recent years with grace and humility.  She was blessed to be in the care of her daughter Mary, with the help of her grandson Steven.  Her children thank those who helped care for Jane these past few years, most especially her devoted caregivers DeeDee, Cindy and niece Carol.  Our hearts are heavy with sadness for the loss of our mom but so appreciate the kindness and love given Jane by these special caregivers.  We thank those who thought of her often, visiting, calling, and sending cards.  The family takes solace knowing that Jane is at peace in joyous reunion with Tom, her beloved husband and soulmate.
