John Callahan Obituary

John (Jack) Callahan, husband to his beloved wife Joan Marie (O’Connor) Callahan and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026. He was born in Boston on April 11, 1941, to his parents (deceased), John F. Callahan and Margaret T. Callahan.

Graduating from Boston College in the Class of 1963, Jack played varsity hockey, made lifelong friends and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Joan. Jack’s successful 60-year career was spent in institutional equity sales in Boston at multiple financial institutions including Alex. Brown & Sons.

For over 61 years, Jack and Joan’s marriage was the foundation beneath a large and loving family, a life shaped by faith, devotion, and their care for one another. Together, they raised eight children and were blessed with 25 grandchildren: Maura (spouse Doug Louison, Callie/Brian Belichick, Dan/Allie McLaughlin, Molly), Susan Wagner (spouse Steve, Emma, Steven/Rory, Grace), Linda Hazard (spouse Tom, Meghan, TJ, Kevin), John J. Jr. (spouse Jenny, Lilly, Caroline), Gregory (spouse Irene, Sophia, Anna, Rose, Declan), Brian (Anne-Mari, Catherine, Patrick, Victoria), Michael (spouse Allison, Madeleine, Ainsley, John, Ronan) and Katie Dowdall (spouse Brendan, Conor, Liam). They were also overjoyed to welcome two great-grandchildren: Rose (Callie and Brian) and Jack (Steven and Rory).

More than his vast accomplishments, Jack will be remembered for the family he built and the way he loved them. His family was the great charge of his life; one he carried with deliberate reverence. His love was built into the homes he made (Chestnut Hill, Dennis, MA and Naples, FL), the burdens he lifted, the beauty he insisted on, and the constancy his family could always trust.

Jack’s Catholic faith stood at the center of his life and remained with him until the end. Those who love him take comfort in knowing that he is with God, held now by the faith that held him.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday May 1st at 10:00 am at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill with a private burial and reception for all to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Camp Harbor View.
