John Colarusso, 90, of Allston, passed away at home on April 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Allston on April 6, 1935, son to the late John and Pasqualine Colarusso, and stepson to the late Emilio Morello. He was the devoted brother of Gemma J. Savarese, and the late Marion Giovino and Carmen Colarusso. John is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
John attended high school at St. Columbkille in Brighton. He served in the Army from 1954-1958 in Germany during the Korean War. While serving in the military, he was part of a tank battalion, where he specialized in maintaining and repairing tanks. This experience paved the way for him to pursue higher education at Boston University after his service, ultimately earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 669 in Allston and Knights of Columbus 555, also in Allston. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Allston where he attended weekly masses.
John found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved. Whether it was the lively evenings at his “yum yum club”, filled with laughter and good food, or the cherished Fourth of July cookouts that brought everyone together. He was happiest in the company of his friends and family, whom he loved to cook for, John especially took great pride in making homemade wine and sausages. He was a selfless man, always prioritizing others before himself. Among his friends, he was affectionately known as “Hoss.” John was truly one of a kind, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to meet and know him.
