Joseph Butler, 68, of Waltham, passed peacefully surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. Always a fighter, jokingly called the "Butler Brawler", he put up a strong fight till the end. He loved his family more than anything and undoubtedly wanted more time with them.
Joe leaves behind his wife Sue (Hover) of 38 years. The two met on a blind date over 41 years ago and have been having adventures, from road trips to treasure hunting, ever since. He was incredibly proud of his children Dawn (Butler) Hurley and Tim Butler. Joe taught them many important life lessons, gave them his wonderful sense of humor and always had their backs. He will be missed by his son in law Carl Hurley and daughter in law Krystal Gorman. Joe enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his precious granddaughter Freya Hurley, whom he affectionately called "Goober".
Joe will also be missed by mother in law Sandy Hover, sister in law Kathy Hardy, close friends Larry and Laura LeBlanc and many nieces and nephews. Through the years Joe was a father figure to many of Dawn and Tim's friends, who will also miss him.
Joe never wanted any type of services. Always quite the character, many will remember that he threw himself a "living wake" on Halloween about 10 years ago for family and friends to come pay their respects in person so he could enjoy it. Thank you Joe for all of the many, many laughs and memories that we can look back on and cherish forever. Until we meet again- hit it...
