Kelly Lynn Roberts

On Monday, June 22, 2020, Kelly Lynn Roberts, loving daughter, sister, niece, friend, and co-worker unexpectedly passed away at age 52. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched throughout her life. Her spirit and smile are indelible memories that will be with us forever in her absence.

Kelly was born on September 2, 1967, in Aurora, CO to Donna Rees and the late Douglas Roberts. Kelly grew up traveling the country in a military family along with her two brothers Jeff and Mark. Her father Doug worked hard as an Airforce Officer while Donna was a stabilizing force during the changing landscape of childhood. Kelly graduated from Bellevue East High School in Nebraska with many classmates that she still calls friends. She went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Accounting. She passed her CPA exam on the first try. “Way to go Kelly!” It was a shared proud moment when she moved to Kansas City accepting her first job with Price Waterhouse. Once she established her career she wanted to move to “The Big City” and chose Boston. She had a successful career in her city of choice. She worked as a Tax Manager at Investors Bank and Trust and at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, as Vice President of Finance at Advanced Technology Ventures, as CFO at Heritage Partners, and CFO at Brooke Private Equity Associates and her last job was working as Treasurer of Swift Current Energy. While working in various positions, she was also the founder of Aurora (named after her birthplace) Consulting.

Kelly was involved in the community professionally. She was President of the Treasurers’ Club of Boston, was a Board Member of the Private Equity CFO Association and was a Fundraising Committee Member of Women in Alternative Assets.

Kelly had a passion for the great outdoors and traveling. She loved to hike, go for a run, and scuba dive. Her happy places were on mountain tops and the ocean. Her love of running was validated by completing two NYC marathons. Some of the countries she traveled to include France, Morocco, the Philippines, and Croatia. She was also an avid music lover and enjoyed attending music festivals. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, infectious smile, and kindness to animals.

Kelly was preceded in death by her father, Douglas, and her maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Eugene Raymond, her paternal grandparents, Harry and Lillian Roberts, her uncle Michael White, and her cousin Samantha Stockton. She is survived by her mother Donna (David) Rees, brothers Jeffrey (Jeanne) Roberts, Mark (Colleen) Roberts, and her four nieces Tatum, Marlo, Elsa, and Fiona. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Debra & Dave DeYoung, Diane McDermott & Jeff Elst, Denise White, Dick & Freida Roberts, and Don & Mary Roberts along with her cousins Scott, Jamie, Justin, Sarah, Rayme, Josh, Ryan, Andrea, Patty, Eric, Pamela, Deanna, and Dawn.
