Forever in Our Hearts
Marian T (Rovin) Hazell was born and raised in Jamaica Plain, MA, and was the middle daughter to immigrants Frank and Aneila Rovin. In her early twenties, Marian worked at the Watertown Armory, where she met Jack Hazell. They were married in 1949 and settled in Brighton MA. Together, they raised four children and celebrated 56 years of marriage.
They had wonderful friendships through the Knights of Columbus, Women Sodality, and their church. They enjoyed being surrounded by extended family and formed countless memories in their cottage on Briar Circle, Cape Cod, a place that became their second home during the summer.
Marian enjoyed dancing, swimming, and travelling (she had the “travel Bug”), and visited Ireland, England and Scotland. During her senior years, she participated in the Brighton Senior Center and traveled often with her friend Mary Compton. Marian also spent winters visiting her children in California and North Carolina. Reading, or listening to non-fiction was a favorite pastime of hers, and often she related these stories to her family, though sometimes her family questioned their authenticity. These accounts became known as “A Mimi story”.
Above all, Marian’s main loves were her family and Catholic faith. To her grandchildren she was their beloved “Mimi”. Marian spent her final years living with her daughter Janet and son-in- law Patrick in Norwood, MA, where she lived to be 99 years old.
Marian departed to be with the Lord on August 15, 2024 and was preceded by her late husband Jack, and her sister Stella Carey. She is survived by her four children: Jeffrey P. and his wife Gina of Temecula, CA; Linda M. Hook of Goldsboro, NC; Lori Ann Hazell and her husband Peter Smialek of Belmont, MA; and Janet L, Connell and her husband Patrick of Norwood, MA. Marian is also survived by her sister Helen Williams, of West Roxbury, MA, as well as her twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
