Mark grew up in Brighton, graduating Brighton High and then studied nights to earn a BS from Northeastern University, whilst working full-time. He proudly served in the Army Reserves at Ft. Drum NY. Mark enjoyed a lifetime career in the insurance industry, culminating in ownership of an insurance agency with offices on Federal Street, Boston, Newton, and Wellesley. A true athlete, he began distance running in his mid-30s and continued to run into his 70s, completing two Boston Marathons, sub 4. When not running, he would be found on the golf course or watching it on tv along with other Boston sports. For years Mark and Dot volunteered their time at Special Olympic events. They enjoyed many years of traveling. He retired early and spent over 20 winters at his residence in Naples FL. He had found his heaven on earth, having made many a new friendship, golfed daily, and was very involved in the golf community association. He was dedicated to his wife Dorothy after she suffered a devastating stroke. The last 10 years were spent at Atria Assisted Living at Marina Bay and most recently Alliance at Marina Bay Skilled Nursing.
There was a special place in Mark’s heart for the staff and he had deepest gratitude to Dina Dellamano and Dr. Mark Ostrum. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mark may be made to Special Olympics 1133 19th Street NW 12th floor Washington, DC 20036 or Boston Athletic Association One Ash Street Hopkinton MA 01748.
