Mary Jane Herrmann, a devoted mother, grandmother, and esteemed nurse and public health administrator, passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2025, in Newton, at the age of 91. Born in Buffalo, NY, to Edward and Cathrine (Moore) Gaiser, Mary Jane led a life defined by compassion, service, and a deep love for her family.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Niagara University and went on to complete a Master’s in Public Health at Clark University. Mary Jane began her career as an emergency room nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she met her future husband, the late Dr. John B. Herrmann. They were married on September 3, 1960, at Blessed Trinity Church in Buffalo, NY, and built a life together centered around family and shared purpose.
Mary Jane spent the majority of her adult life in Worcester, MA, where she raised her children, pursued a meaningful career in health care, and gave back to the community, including serving on the Membership Committee of the Worcester Art Museum.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children: Christian Herrmann (Susan Serenska) of Westport, CT; Karen Marr (Jeremy) of Boise, ID; and Mark Herrmann (Deborah Bailey) of Wellesley, MA. Mary Jane was a cherished grandmother to EJ Herrmann (Christian), Tucker and Dixie Marr (Karen) and Bailey and Abigail Herrmann (Mark). Her legacy of warmth, grace, and dedication will be held dearly in their hearts.
