Onelia Cardarelli Marini of Brighton, MA, formerly of San Donato, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, at age 93. She was the loving mother of Gaetano Marini of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and Robert and Deborah Demetriades Marini of Naples, Florida; cherished grandmother of Matthew and Melissa Marini, Thalia Marini and partner Jen Depolito, Danielle Marini, Ianthe Marini and partner Michael Lehman, and Erika Marini and partner Nora Al Aleiwi. She was the devoted great grandmother of Ethan and Makenzie Marini. Onelia is also survived by her sisters, Carmela Leone of Brighton, Andreina Bartolomucci and husband, Alberto, and Candida Cellucci of Italy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she held dear. She is predeceased by her treasured husband of 67 years, Pasqualino Marini, her beloved daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Hanley Marini, her sisters Peppina Roffo and Pompea Cellucci, and many in-laws on both the Marini and Cardarelli sides.
Onelia will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman whose life was her family, and on which she lavished her care and love. A holiday at Nonna’s was a bulwark of our family life and the author of many of our most cherished memories. We are grateful to all for their expressions of condolence and thank the staff of the Villages at Willow Crossing - Audra, Brenda, Crystal, Jackie, Patricia, Katie, and Cal - for their extraordinary affection for “Mama”. Thanks as well to Yanche, Sophia, and Beatrice who cared for her at Terracina of Naples.
Calling hours are from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 24, at the Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton, and will be followed immediately by funeral services with subsequent interment at the Newton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
