Orquidea Hidalgo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 5, 2025. She was the devoted wife of the late Efren Hidalgo.
Born in Cuba, Orquidea and her cherished husband Efren emigrated to the United States in 1962, establishing their home in Brighton, Massachusetts. Orquidea dedicated many years to educating young minds as a passionate math teacher at Brighton High School, part of the Boston Public School system.
She was the loving mother of Efren Hidalgo from South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and the adored "Lita" (Little Grandmother) to her two granddaughters, Ella Cathryn and Abigail Grace Hidalgo, also from South Kingstown, RI. Orquidea was the youngest sister of the late Elida Menendez and Vitalia Pons of Miami, Florida. She was also the loving aunt of Ana Esquivel and grandnieces Ana Luisa Fernandez and Carolina Esquivel. Orquidea is also fondly remembered by her dear friend, Marisa Angilletta of Brighton.
Orquidea was known for her kind and generous spirit, warm heart, infectious laugh, and perhaps a well-placed swear word (or three) that always made those around her smile. Her family and friends will deeply miss her.
