Passed away in the early morning of Sunday, December 17th, at the age of 76. She was a loving partner and wife to her husband, Donald, for over 54 years; mother to her two children, Katie and Jonathan; and a grandmother to Lilly. She grew up in Mount Vernon, PA as the oldest of three children, and was the first of her immediate family to attend college. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from Notre Dame of Maryland University before earning an MBA in finance from Boston College. She settled down in the Boston area, residing in Newton, MA and raising her two children. She was an incredibly driven and intelligent woman in an often male-dominated professional world, shattering proverbial glass ceilings at every turn.
She began her career in executive management and consulting positions with companies, such as General Electric Information Systems, Bain & Co., Multisystems, and Index Group. In 1990, she joined Fidelity Investments as Vice President of Applications for its Systems Company. In 1994, she was promoted to Executive Vice President of Customer and Technology Services, in which she was responsible for customer service, architecture, and testing services. In September 1999, she became the Managing Director and Executive Vice President of Technology for Devonshire Investors, the private investment group affiliated with Fidelity. Pat was responsible for evaluating emerging technologies and assessing the technical feasibility of key initiatives amid a rapidly changing and complicated world. By the end of her career in 2011, Devonshire’s portfolio had grown to include approximately $5 billion in managing assets, featuring companies across the world that employed over 23,000 people.
Her success in the business world came with it an incredible heart and generosity for others. She served on the Board of the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps. Pat was particularly passionate about her volunteer work with Rogerson Communities, which provides housing and health care for elders and low[1]income individuals in the Greater Boston area. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Rogerson and served as its treasurer. In addition, she served as a member of the Boston College Women’s Council and was on the Board of Trustees for her college alma mater.
Pat loved jewelry, with a specific penchant for Bakelite in all its forms. She traveled the world with her husband, Don, throughout their life. Paris was her favorite. Her chocolate cake was the thing of legend for family holiday gatherings. She loved Star Trek and was a voracious reader of fiction. Her strength, determination, and caring nature in the final years of her life despite many health challenges will always be remarkable to her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Rogerson Communities or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
