Paul Carter Obituary

Paul M. Carter, dedicated Father and Grandpa, of Roslindale, MA, passed peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by his four children at the age of 73. Paul was carried gently into the arms of his Savior, his last and heavenly home. Paul is now reunited with his late wife, Amy Carter, son, Jonathan Carter as well as many other loved ones.

Paul was born to his parents, Glenn and Marjorie Carter on August 16, 1952, and spent his early years growing up in North Royalton, Ohio before graduating from Bowling Green University in 1974 with a Bachelor’s in Physics. Paul then went on to join the United States Air Force. During a break in Paul’s military training, Paul met the love of his life Amy Gedeon while on a double date at the movies with Amy’s sister Barbara and her then boyfriend, where the group saw The Great Waldo Pepper. Soon after that evening, Paul and Amy were married in their local church, North Royalton Baptist on July 3rd, 1976. Paul served for 12 years as a back seat navigator while flying in the F-4 Phantom with stations in Germany as well as California before his final flight. Paul then transitioned into assisting with weapon designs for future fighter jets. While in college, Paul was introduced to The Navigators and he and Amy continued to be engaged in their ministry throughout Paul’s time in the Air Force, even joining the ministry as associate staff toward the end of his military career. After almost 20 years of service Paul retired from the US Air Force and along with Amy began a fulltime career with The Navigators serving in Worcester, MA at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Together they helped students to know Christ and make him known using one-on-one mentorship, bible study and community to create “spiritual generations” of leaders. After moving to Boston in 2004 to minister to students at Boston University, Paul enjoyed being an active member of his and Amy’s local church, Cambridgeport Baptist Church while serving as an Elder and in various ministries. Throughout his life Paul was a dedicated follower of Christ and that showed through his active service to the church and helping others learn what it meant for them to follow Christ in close relationship with God. Paul worked with The Navigators in many facets throughout the years, serving various campuses before fully retiring in 2022. Towards the end, Paul fought a difficult and courageous 3 year battle with CNS Lymphoma. He was not one to complain and continued to live his life to the fullest despite his diagnosis. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed home improvement projects, board games, following all of his Boston sports teams, grilling, hiking in God’s creation and spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his four children, David Carter (April Carter), Sarah McRell (Kevin McRell), Christina VanBecelaere (Bobby VanBecelaere), Rebekah Mwesigwa (Allan Mwesigwa); thirteen grandchildren, Giuliana Carter, Carter McRell, Dawson Carter, Daisy McRell, Genevieve Carter, Cora McRell, Jonathan Carter, Pearl McRell, Elijah VanBecelaere, Ivy McRell, Ezekiel VanBecelaere, Margret Mwesigwa and Winifred Mwesigwa, with grandchild number fourteen on the way; two sisters, Jean Christian and Carol Buncher; in-laws, Cindy Liptack (Jim Liptack), Barbara Gedeon (Barry Newton) and Eric Gedeon (Kristin Gedeon) as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
