Samuel Quan of Malden passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022, at his sister Judy’s home in Brighton with Judy and niece, Kadi Lee by his side. Born on March 8, 1951 in Brighton, MA he was the son of the late Fat and Ark How (Chin) Quan. Sam is survived by siblings: Wai Wan of Brooklyn, NY; Lee Wai Kwan of New Territories Hong Kong; Priscilla LaMonica of Belmont, NH; Lester of Franklin, MA; the late Mary Quan of Concord, MA; Joseph of Waltham, MA; Judy Rufo and her husband Paul of Brighton, MA. Also, survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sam had an amazing 42-year career with the railroad, starting at age 25. As a mechanic he worked for Boston & Maine Railroad, Amtrak, Railroad (MBCR), and Massachusetts Bay Commuter. Later in life, he transitioned to the IT department at Keolis where he worked as a Network Specialist. Retiring from the job he loved in December 2018.
Sam loved to tinker! He was always bringing different equipment home to pull apart and reassemble his way.
Sam was up to date with the latest technology of all sorts – computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, speakers, coffee machines, microwaves, convention ovens, instant pots, even air fryers. He has quite the collection and would argue the pros and cons of each and every single one!
Sam also enjoyed his solitude. He was a private man with a great palette, an appreciation for great wine, coffee, and dessert – his favorite being tiramisu.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Lana Tsao; Julia Allen, NP of Massachusetts General Hospital; the cardiology team at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center - John Wylie, MD, Patti Pacetti, RN and Jackie Lemoine, NP for their patience, dedication, and consideration of the family.
We would also like to send accolades to the ETHOS family for their support and comradery, as well as the staff of Care Dimensions Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sam can be made to American Heart Association 300 5th Ave Waltham, MA 02451.
