Stanley Lane Rideout, 77, Brighton, MA. Went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2025. Formerly of Durham, NH; Arlington, MA and Wellesley, MA. Son of the late George M. Rideout, Sr. and the late Eloise Lane Rideout. Survived by the love of his life, wife of 56 years, Hilda Ashley Rideout of MA. Son Gregory F. Rideout and wife Mayumi of MA and son J. Scott Rideout of TX. Grandsons Parker, Paxton and Keegan Rideout. Siblings Susan Graves and husband Paul of MA, E. Priscilla Costello and husband Frank of ME, George M. Rideout, Jr. and late wife Mary of MA, Sally Smith and husband Sharber of AL, and Ida Crafts and husband Doug of NH. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a young man Stan was a boy scout and camped at Nobscot Scout Reservation. He raised a menagerie of pets and had a large newspaper route. He collected for the Jimmy Fund regularly winning movie passes. Stan was an autoclave operator at New England Baptist Hospital. Stan and Hilda met in high school at Christian Endeavor, Park Street Church; traveled with Gordon College European Seminar; and attended Camp Brookwoods teen camp. Married at York, ME in 1969 with reception by the ocean at Fletcher Ashley’s Rock House. Stan has a Bachelors in business from New England College where he enjoyed skiing at Pat’s Peak, building a covered bridge and jacking up houses. He sold shoes for Lane Brothers under his grandfather. He has a Masters in Education from Lesley College. He taught second and third grade in MA, NH and ME; and was a children’s writer and poet. With Hilda he raised Gregory and Scott in a small university town taking them cross country skiing. Stan regularly built and brought home items for adventure including: a tether ball, tire swing, tree fort and sandbox. Enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He regularly hiked Mount Kearsarge and kept the family involved in water sports. Helped host 1996 Franklin Graham crusade and was church librarian. Prayed, studied the Bible and engaged in church life with family and friends. Stan had many friends in the neighborhood and at Presentation with whom he was able to share his love for others and for Christ.
Memorial service Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Westgate Church, 100 Winter Street, Weston, MA. Reception to follow.
