LYONS, Thomas Joseph of Newton, 96, died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 4, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Pat (Courtney) Lyons. He leaves children Deborah Lyons of Tempe, AZ, Kathleen Lyons (Kevin) of Newton, Thomas Lyons, Jr. (Amy) of Walpole, John Lyons of Chestnut Hill, Pattyanne Lyons of West Roxbury, and Paul Lyons (Pauline) of Southborough. His brothers and sisters, William Lyons (Beverly) of Michigan, Paul E. Lyons (Rose) of South Boston, Frances Cucinotta of Norwood, and Margaret Burns of Watertown. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Kaitlin, Meghan, Kelley, Courtney, Thomas, Maeve, and Sarah, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Tom was born in Roxbury to the late John and Mary (Bauer) Lyons and spent a lifetime committed to family, friends, supporting St. Patrick’s Parish on Magazine Street and the old neighborhood. Having graduated Boston College in 1950, Tom began his career in journalism at the Boston Post. He then spent 25 years as the Northeast Director of Public Relations for American Airlines. In retirement he started communications programs for Dana Hall and Belmont Hill, while enthusiastically supporting his lifelong passion for Boston College Football.
Funeral from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, on Friday, June 9th at 10:00am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours Thursday, June 8th from 4:00pm – 8:00pm in the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
