Thomas McNally Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Francis McNally, affectionately known to many as “Tom Mac,” on May 24,2025. Born on March 13, 1934, in Manchester, UK, to Christopher and Ellen McNally (née Ward), Tom was raised in County Mayo, Ireland, by his beloved Aunt Amelia McNally and his cherished Grandmother McNally. Their love and guidance shaped the kind, generous man he would become.

Tom was predeceased by his sister Catherine Lombardi née McNally of Brighton, MA and Lawrence McNally of Manchester, England

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret (née Bourke), with whom he built a life rooted in love, family, and tradition. Together they raised five children—three born in Ireland and two in Boston—instilling in them the values of compassion, resilience, and community.

He leaves behind his loving daughter Amelia Murray and her husband Patrick of Dennis, MA; his son Christopher McNally of Medfield, MA; his daughter Andrea McElligott and her husband Dermot of Dedham, MA; and his daughter Margaret Bolotte and her husband Frankie, also of Dedham and his daughter in law Tessa Tobia of Westport Co Mayo. Tom was predeceased by his son Thomas McNally of Westport Co Mayo whose memory he held close to his heart. Tom also had very loving relationships with his grandchildren: Dylan, Madison and Jenna McNally, Maeve and Ciara Bolotte, Christopher McNally and Denis and Brynn McElligott along with many cherished nieces, nephews and extended family.

A lifelong supporter and pillar of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Tom was known far and wide—both in the United States and Ireland—for his passion for Gaelic games. He proudly supported his teams on both sides of the Atlantic, and his unwavering dedication to Irish culture was matched only by his boundless generosity.

Tom Mac’s home in Boston was a welcoming refuge for countless Irish immigrants, offering support, encouragement, and a warm place to land. His open door, kind heart, and ready smile made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know him.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Irish community across the globe. His legacy of kindness, community spirit, and cultural pride will live on in the many lives he touched.
