William J Geaney

William J. Geaney in Brighton formerly of Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland passed away on July 24, 2021 at the age of 90.  Beloved husband of Eileen “Nell” (O’Sullivan) Geaney.  Devoted father of Kathleen Golden and her husband Daniel of Norwood, Jennifer Lynch and her husband Brandon of West Roxbury.  Loving Pa of Emerson and Ronan Golden, Andrew and Molly Lynch.  Brother of Joan Byrne of Ireland and the late Kathleen, Nellie, Jenny, Jerry, Margaret, John, Dennis, Patrick and Theresa. Loving “Uncle Billy” to many nieces and nephews in Boston and Ireland. 

After arriving from Ireland Billy settled in Brighton where he made his home for the past 72 years. It did not take Billy long to settle into Boston, quickly falling for the game of baseball, his beloved Red Sox, Dunkin Donuts coffee and an affinity for scratch tickets.  He was a man of routine. Billy’s idea of a good day included reading the Herald in his backyard, while listening to a Red Sox game. He was up and out early each day and loved an early dinner, a good card game and running into and catching up with his many friends at the Irish Social Club and Dilboy Stadium. 

Billy loved nothing more, however, than doting on his beloved Nell, his girls and their families. Billy was a great storyteller and loved sharing stories of his days as a boy in Ireland. He had a keen memory, a sharp wit and a great laugh, all of which will be missed by many.

Billy was a Veteran of the USAF and served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

Funeral from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home on Friday, July 30th at 9:30am.  Followed by Funeral Mass in St. Columbkille Church 321 Market St Brighton at 10:30am.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Visiting Hours Thursday, July 29th from 4-7pm in the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. 

Mr. Geaney was a member of Sprinkler Fitters Local 550 Boston for 66 years, Cork Football Club and usher at St. Columbkille Church.
